Biography Kano Chikanobu (1660-1728) Painter of the early to mid-Edo period. Born on July 2, 1660, as the eldest son of Kano Tsunenobu. Participated in the creation of the Edo Castle barrier paintings in Enpo 6 (1678). Inherited the Kano family residence in Kobikicho in Shotoku 3 (1713). Became a Hogen (a rank in the Buddhist hierarchy) in Kyoho 4 (1719) and worked on a folding screen presented to Korea. Died on January 6, 1728, at the age of 69. He was commonly known as Ukon, and his art names were Nyosen and Taigusai.

Painter of the early to mid-Edo period.
