West & East" is a collection of photographs by Masaya Nakamura, one of Japan's leading photographers. Like Nobuyoshi Araki, Nakamura graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Chiba University (then Tokyo Higher Technical School) and worked for the Yomiuri Shimbun, Sekai Eiga Sha, and Eiga Star before going freelance. Starting with news photography, he worked in the fields of graph photography, commercial photography, and women's photography, establishing "glamour photography," which depicts the allure of women. In 1957, under the leadership of critic Tatsuo Fukushima, and together with Yasuhiro Ishimoto, Shomei Higashimatsu, Kikuji Kawada, Eikoh Hosoe, Kazutaka Narahara, and others, he held the historic "10 Eyes" exhibition, which marked a departure from conventional realist photography and ushered in a new era of photography. Masaya Nakamura was one of the members of the exhibition "Ten Eyes". This book is a collection of his works published in 1969 under the editorship of Camera Mainichi, and contains many color and black-and-white nude illustrations. It was edited by Shoji Yamagishi, the famous editor-in-chief of Camera Mainichi. The binding is by Seiichi Horiuchi, and the layout is by Shinji Honda.
