In the model, we have here, the Patrimony ref. 42002, we find an early 2000s timepiece by Vacheron Constantin to continue this pursuit of perfection into the twenty-first century. The look of the time-and-date Patrimony follows classic dress watch designs which originated in the first half of the 20th century but began to see extensive use by Vacheron Constantin specifically in the 1950s and the decades that have since followed. Its precious metal case is beautifully minimalist with its straight lugs, petite crown, and thin bezel. The case measures only 35mm across, with the size wonderfully understated on the wrist but still with plenty of daily utility via the watch's date function and automatic powering accomplished via the Vacheron Constantin caliber 1312 inside. While available in a number of dial styles - most notably including a more matte cream look and textured sunburst look - the 42002 reference family is best characterized by its conciseness. Of the traits found across the line: sharp applied hour markers, a bordered date display, a simple printed minute ring, and a minimalist, and stick-style handset. While simple, each luxurious aspect on the dial is executed to the highest quality, sans any extraneous accents of lume, and all topped by the famed Maltese cross which has long represented the brand and its incredible timepieces.
