Basara-Taishō is one of the Twelve Heavenly Generals who safeguard the realm of Yakushi Nyorai and its followers. He is also known as Kongo-Taishō, with "Kongo" meaning diamond, signifying something indestructible. His right-hand wields a sword that represents the Vajra, a symbol of ultimate hardness and invincibility.
Basara-Taishō is the leader of seven hundred million Yaksha, divine beings dedicated to protecting the Buddhist Law. Typically, he is depicted with a dog's head atop his own, showcasing a wrathful demeanor.
In Nara, Japan, the Shin-Yakushi-ji temple houses the oldest life-size statue of Basara-Taishō. This mask is crafted in the likeness of the face of that very statue of Basara-Taishō.
It is in good condition for its age, but there are some stains in places. Please check the photos for details.
