Extremely rare surviving episodes cut out from New York World featuring The Newlyweds. This bundle contains 20 episodes from the 1913-1916 period. The pages are in fair condition, wrinkles, tears, flaking will occur, look at the photos for details. Each page has comics printed recto/verso. On the verso side, there is usually Hawkshaw the Detective by Gus Mager. The Newlyweds, was created by cartoonist George McManus (whose most famous creation was Bringing Up Father). He explored the comedic aspects of that period of time when couples are most deleriously in love, i.e., between tying the knot and the end of the honeymoon. McManus was only 20 years old in 1904, when he went to work for Joseph Pulitzer's New York World, and started making comics there until he left in 1912. The cartoonist's successor at Pulitzer, Albert George Carmichael, continued the Sunday comic until 1916.
