It ages for at least 3 years in large French oak barrels. Since the discovery of the mysterious manuscript which reported the recipe for the elixir of life, a first version of the elixir was produced in the monastery of Vauvert in Paris until 1737. From then to 1864 the Elixir Vegetal was produced in the pharmacy of the monastery of La Grande Chartreuse, where, in 1764, Father Jerome Maubec defined the first recipe, adding sugar and lowering the alcohol content, working to achieve the green color. Green Chartreuse as we know it today was born from the formula of 130 herbs in 1840.
