A very RARE and interesting book by James Cowan...."The Maori. Yesterday and To-Day".
Cowan worked tirelessly to preserve the history, language and culture of the Maori people and in his research interviewed many elderly Maori who had experienced the life-style of the race before European influences were widespread. His "The Maori. Yesterday and To-Day" represents probably the high point of these efforts in published form. Few texts. before or since, so thoroughly cover Maori life as this volume does. First edition of 1930, 266, pages including appendix and index, numerous b/w photos, some art, map, diagrams etc. Brown hard covers, with gilt front/spine titles on green panels are in very good condition. Inside mostly clean condition, light foxing. Externally some shelfwear, light stains on boards. Uncommon.
