Ancient Egyptian Scarab for Thutmose III
This is an interesting and large scarab for Thutmose III. The scarab is inscribed with
“Men-Kheper-Re“ (Tuthmose III) in a cartouche, below a scarab „kheper“ sign
flanked by two uraei and above a winged sun-disk.
The scarab is attached to an old collector tag, which is over hundred years old.
A scarab with the same image is in the book (see last picture):
- Hornung/Staehelin, Skarabäen und andere Siegelamulette aus Basler Sammlungen, no. 254.
There it is described that there is no exact parallel, only similar pieces, like:
- W. M. Flinders Petrie, Scarabs and Cylinders with names, 18.6.75.
(with plant instead of winged sundisk)
- H.R. Hall, Catalogue of Egyptian Scarabs, etc., in the British Museum, Vol. 1; no. 790
(with maat feathers instead Uraei)
