A striking, complete and all-matching Japanese gold & black lacquer suit-of-armour (yoroi), laced with orange cords, a multicoloured and navy blue hem and a 2-piece cuirass (kuro’urushinuri hi’ito kon’suso nimaidô tôsei gusoku).
- 10-plate hoshi'bachi kabuto (helmet with domed rivets) with long golden metal kuwagata-antlers, glancing a circular ‘sun’ maedate (decorative front piece), 5-tiered chrysanthemum-shaped tehen’no’kanamono (decorative apex fitting), golden silk decorative tassel (agemaki), 2-tiered ‘itazane’-plate shikoro (neck guards) and large back-bending fukikaeshi (face guards) covered with light decorative ‘smoked leather’ and fitted with circular appliques shaped like chrysanthemum flowers (kiku).
- ‘Angry man’-facial mask (resseibô-type menpô) with separate nose-piece boasting a black moustache, gold lacquered teeth, and 4-tiered gold and black lacquer ‘kiritsuke kozane’-plate gorget (yodarekake).
- Sode (shoulder guards), ô-type, constructed with 6 ‘kiritsuke kozane’-plates, adorned with golden silk cords with decorative tassels and chrysanthemum shaped decorative appliques.
- Kote (bracer), shino-type, long lacquered metal pieces connected by Japanese mail (kaushi-gusari), placed over purple brocade silk with a golden and silver floral design.
- Dô (cuirass), ‘môgami’-type, laced gold & black lacquered ‘kiritsuke kozane’-plates, with a 6-parts of 5-piece ‘kiritsuke kozane’-plate kusazuri (tassets). In front two small golden silk agemaki.
- Brown silk waistband (uwa’obi).
- Haidate (thigh armour) of 2 columns of 4 black & gold lacquered ‘kiritsuke kozane’-plates, placed on matching silk with decorative ‘smoked leather’ borders.
- Suneate (shin guards), tsutsu-type, tube-shaped with large vertical metal plates laced over matching silk tateage (knee guards)
Complete with a square black lacquered store-box for a suit-of armour (yoroi’bako). The front of the store-box decorated with the character mae 前 (“in front”) in gold. The Kanji "Mae" meaning "the first"; in other words: "I, who has priority above others".
Approx. height with box: approx. 160 cm.
Period: Japan – Late-Shôwa period (Late-20th century).
