[Expert's remark: beautifully preserved old bottle from Hartevelt & Zoon, who owned a now lost Dutch distillery in Leiden named 'De Fransche Kroon' (The French Crown). The company was bought out by Bols in 1968 and under Bols ownership Hartevelt Jonge Jenever became the most sold jenever in the Netherlands.
Most larger Dutch distillers in the 1920s and 1930s also imported various spirits, such as Cognac and Whisky. But many also sold a imitation brandy under the name of cognac ('koetsierscognac'). It is often impossible to say on the outside what a bottle contains. But the lack of any mention of 'imported' on the label, makes me expect it is an imitation brandy, nowadays known as 'Vieux'. - ES]
