Born on January 1, 1938, in Nagano Prefecture, Yoshimichi was a distinguished member of the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition), an administrative committee member of the Nichoukai (Japan Carving Association), and the President of the Chiba Prefectural Art Association. He was a student under Fujino Tenkou. This exquisite hand-carved fragrant statue depicts Kongara Douji, a guardian deity known in Buddhist teachings for warding off malevolent forces. Traditionally placed at temple entrances and within halls to symbolically protect from demons and disasters, the figure is captured in a respectful pose with hands clasped in prayer. The artist's signature, Yoshimichi, is delicately carved into the back of the statue, authenticating his work. Despite signs of aging such as light wear, minor scratches, and slight stains, the statue remains in good condition, a testament to its craftsmanship and enduring beauty.
