A great, large wooden lantern 灯籠 (tôrô). This type of toro is called ghost lantern
This lantern is made of burned cypress wood. This gives the lantern a natural and rustic appearance, allowing it to seamlessly blend into a garden or landscape.
Its individual parts are represent the following:
The bottom-most piece, sao 竿 (post) touching the ground, represents chi, the earth 地. The next piece, the chûdai 中台 ('central platform') represents sui 水 (water). Ka 火 (fire), is represented by the section encasing the lantern's light or flame 火袋 (hibukuro). Fû 風 (air) and kû 空 (void or spirit) are represented by the last section, top-most and pointing towards the sky.
Its hibukuro with a nice open carved design of a crescent moon and a chrysanthemum on opposite sides. The openings are closed with plastic and old paper. It is possible to add a small light source inside, one part can be opened.
Period: Japan - Mid-Shôwa period, approx. 1950.

The toro has a light outdoorsy patina. It is in a good original condition. The post and the roof are having a crack, please look at the photos for a condition reference. The lantern is sturdy and all parts are fixed. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
Shipping of this stone lantern is relatively easy. We will use a wooden pallet and good packing for safe transport.
When shipped we will also add a certificate of authenticity.
