ODYV - Charles Lemanceau (attr.) - 雕刻, Chasse - 24 cm - 陶瓷
This 1930's Art Deco sculpture depicting two dogs harrying a hind is marked ODYV under the base. ODYV is the brand of the Berlot-Mussier factory (Vierzon, France) dedicated to the production of artistic items. The name of the sculptor is not visible under the glaze. Most models were designed by Charles Lemanceau, well known for his animal sculptures, also working for St-Clément factory, who was signing for ODYV under the pseudonym Lemone. This model appears in the 1934 catalog under number 140 and name "chasse" (hunt).
The glaze is a special effect called "crispe" or snow-effect. It is an alcaline glaze that is retracting during firing producing something looking like droplets. In this sculpture the effect is well mastered with very small droplets. This technique was mostly in use in the 1920's and 1930's, Louis Dage for instance produced many vases with this effect.
This item is in excellent condition, not breaks or cracks. Minimal sign of wear.
