Above her is a fluid calligraphy of poem number 61 from the cherished "Ogura Hyakunin Isshu", penned by the renowned Heian era female poet Ise no Taifu. The poem marvels at the beauty of the layered cherry blossoms once gracing the ancient city of Nara, now flourishing at the imperial palace. The end of the poem is adorned with the artist's seal. Ise no Taifu was a court lady who served Princess Shikishi, and her poetry is an homage to the yaezakura cherry blossoms, a rare variety in Kyoto, gifted from Nara to the imperial court. This poem was composed impromptu upon request by Fujiwara no Michinaga. Crafted by Ozawa Suika, known for her warm and approachable nature as a calligraphy teacher and her fame through the fairytale "The Firefly that Couldn't Fly" by her husband, Ozawa Akimi. The scroll ends are made of ceramic, and the set includes an original wooden box with the title on the front and a handwritten signature and seal inside the lid. Please note the scroll exhibits slight wear and some spotting, indicative of its historical journey. Refer to the photographs for condition details. Dimensions: approx.
