Many leading historians of the American Revolution, including David Ramsay, James Murray and William Gordon, borrowed extensively from the series. The Annual Register was an annual survey of the past year from a British perspective, usually focusing on history, politics and literature. With sections titled: “History of Europe,” “Chronicle,” “State Papers,” “Characters,” “Natural History,” “Projects,” “Antiquities,” “Miscellaneous Essays,” “Poetry” and “Account of Books.
