He makes monumental stained glass windows, two- and three-dimensional glass sculptures, oil paintings and even glass jewelry. A recent development is that he uses glass in his oil paintings. Bert Grotjohann was one of the first in the Netherlands to work with glass fusing techniques. Characteristic of his work is the use of metallizing glass, where incident light at different angles creates special color variations. His use of color can be called expressive: usually bright yellow, orange, red and blue, with strong color changes within one object. He also uses gold leaf. Very recognizable in his paintings is that a total composition is made up of several sub-compositions, which, viewed up close, are a world in themselves.
