A fundamental name for the entire Italian natural wine movement, Stanko Radikon's is a unique journey through much of Collio's recent history. Oslavia, not far from Gorizia: this is where everything changes in what has been, and continues to be, a sort of large laboratory dedicated to the varieties of the area and their winemaking methods. It is a path that evolved quite rapidly: in the late 1980s, with the development of technology, steel began to be used to produce fresh, drinkable vintage wines. However, Stanko did not believe in this type of production for long and returned to the wood already widely used by his father, bringing the first barriques into the cellar. In 1995, however, everything was revolutionised and large truncated cone-shaped vats began to be used for long macerations of the white grapes. This technique, used by farmers in the past to produce wines that could resist oxidation, has been revived and gradually developed up to the present day. Stanko's wines, often known as 'orange wines', are the product of a radical approach, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Between the rows, the rules are simple, almost essential: few bunches per plant, no synthetic products, only manual processing and harvesting only when optimum ripeness is reached. In the cellar, the procedures are just as simple: spontaneous fermentation, no technicalities and no addition of sulphur dioxide, not even in bottling, then years and years of maturation in barrels, and just as many years of ageing in glass. From Ribolla Gialla to 'Jakot', from Merlot to 'Oslavje', via Pinot Grigio and 'Slatnik', the result is practically unique, inimitable and extraordinary. Wines, those of Radikon, naturally natural, timeless wines, wines like no other, wines that are simply impossible to resist.
