Amazing wide and low lacquer jingasa 陣笠 (war hat) is adorned with an ivy leaf 蔦 (tsuta) crest 紋 (mon) displayed on opposite sides. The hat is crafted in a circular form with a domed top and features a rim finished in gold fundame 粉溜地 (matt lacquer). The upper surface is beautifully executed in black lacquer, embellished with golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design). The underside is smoothly finished in a vibrant, consistent red and comes equipped with a cotton-filled cushion and fabric straps Period: Japan - Late Edo period (First half 19th century).
