unknown - Early Qajar - 1809

A large manuscript Koranic leaf rescued from a badly damaged Koran originating from Qajar Persia (Iran), which is dated on the last page AD 1809/10. We believe this to be from Chapter 82, Al-Infitar (The Cleaving), verses 82 beginning Verse 19, "The day on which no soul will have the authority over any other soul; and on that day, the entire command belongs to Allah' ; and Chapter 83, Al-Mutaffifin (Defrauders), beginning verse 1 'Woe to the defrauders' through verses 7-17, 'the fate of the wicked'. Marginal Juz (section indicators) to the left of the illuminated Surah mark the change of Chapters and lower down, the 10th verse. The elaborate Surah Chapter header has two floral celestial blue end pieces, with the title written in red within a gold cartouche. Interestingly, there is an 'aya' (verse marker) in the middle of the Surah together with commentary below, calling out two Chapters. This is a device that is rare. Above the Surah is a line of scripture from Chapter 82. Below the Surah, are ten (10) lines of 'naskh' script in black from Chapter 83, with Persian commentary in red between these. Multiple gold aya, with red central dot and four blue markings on the blue circumference, mark the many verses on this page. The scripture is framed first with a thin gold frame and enveloped within a marge thicker gold frame surround and a thin double black frame to complete it. This is a fine example on strong burnished paper and when framed would be a great addition to the collection. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional delivery fee charged by me.
