The form of this beaker is a ceramic derivative of Persian metal beakers 6.8 cm. high Note From the mid 6th until the late 5th century B.C. the city of Athens was the unrivaled 'market leader' in the production of fine ceramics. From then on Attic potters and painters produced high quality table ware also in black-glazed technique. Together with black- and red-figure pottery this premium fine-ceramic was exported in important quantities. In recent years the importance of black-glazed pottery has been recognised both by scholars and collectors and is considered to represent a premium-quality production imitating metalwork.
