Byzantine Open-Work Gold Cross with Stone
Circa 13th century AD
This beautiful openwork gold cross pendant features a circular expansion at the end of each of its four arms, and is adorned with a delicate floral pattern within a beaded border. Fine granules enhance the external corners of all of the arms. Central to the cross is a round raised cell set with a stunning green stone cabochon. The suspension loop at the top of the cross, allows for secure wear or display.
The cross holds paramount significance within Christianity as the primary symbol representing the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, a pivotal event in Christian theology. It serves as a profound emblem of faith, redemption, and spiritual transformation, embodying core principles and beliefs of the Christian faith.
