Large size Sasanian stone domed seal. The flat surface is engraved with a lion to left. The seal is pierced to allow for suspension.
Dimensions: ± 26x 22,9 x 21,6 mm
Condition: good solid condition. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.

In the Sasanian Empire, the lion held a venerable place as a symbol of kingship, power and prestige and was a favourite subject in Sasanian art.
The lion (‘šir’ in Persian) is among the strongest and most vicious animals that have been portrayed as fighting the king on several silver vessels and Sasanian basrelief.
