Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to produce intricate designs. The "Hidehira-nuri" technique specifically features decorations known as "Yusoku Hishimon," which include diamond and tanzaku (slender strips) shaped gold leaf arranged over Genji clouds, offering a richly symbolic and traditional motif in the Japanese aristocratic style. His creations were selected several times for the prestigious Nitten exhibition and even garnered the patronage of the Crown Princess Michiko.
