A farmers shekel mask with horns kelepene, Bobo, Western Burkina Faso, depicting an elongated rectangular flat face with small pointed mouth at the end of the jaw line, a long elongated nose, both sides of the top of the nose are square eye holes, the forehead and top of the head are the helmet part of the mask, small cylindric ears on either side of the head, two long horns spiking upwards. The mask has kept its white, blue red and black pigment, giving us an idea of how it would be presented in the village celebrations. Some wear through out, cracks, signs of use. Certificate of provenance.
“The kepelene mask is close in morphological details to the prototype from Kurumani, where the cult originated.”
