Three ropes of special glass beads from Ghana. This kind of beads was made by grinding down glass bottles, then pouring the glasspowder into clay moulds and firing them in traditional local kilns. The banded effect on the beads was created during the process of pouring into the moulds; thin lines of different coloured glass powder were inserted during this process, creating a pleasant alternating lined effect of different colours. The beads presented here are of a higher than usual quality; they are very well-made with beautiful colours. This kind of beads were made around the early 2000's and were quite expensive in Ghana. The smallest beads have a sandcoloured matrix into which thin lines of blue and green were inserted. Dim. 13 x 8 mm. The middle-sized beads are even more colourful; lines and stripes of different colours were inserted into this sand-coloured matrix. Dim. 18 x 10 mm. The larger sand-coloured beads have small dots of blue and green inserted into the matrix.; also a rare design Dim.; 20 x 13 mm. In all 54 beads. Some beads show traces of polishing, due to their long use. All beads were collected in the city of Kumasi in the early 2000's.
