Store in a cellar adjusted to perfection
The 55-hectare vineyard benefits from a terroir that is both poor and demanding for the vineyards. These rest on a gravel ground marked by traces of clay and sand. The grape variety consists of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 24% Merlot. The planting density is around 7,000 feet per hectare.
Rated 16/20 by Jancis Robinson and 87/100 by the Wine Spectator, Château Durfort Vivens 2002 is doing well despite the year with a mild climate. In the end, it is a wine of great freshness that is both powerful and precise. The aromas are well concentrated: fresh fruits (strawberries, blackcurrant, blackcurrant) and intense notes of pepper, spices and vanilla. A beautiful finale and a very pleasant sapidity are at the rendezvous.
To be married with small feathered game for example.
Château Durfort-Vivens is a second grand vintage of Margaux whose wine-growing origins date back to the 14th century with the power of Durfort de Duras family. Subsequently, the Viscount of Vivens will arrive at the head of the castle and it is thanks in particular to him that the wines of the estate will be recognized from the 1855 classification. Then it is Thomas Jefferson who will cite the wines of this large estate in his travel diaries, just behind the wines of Lafite, Latour and Margaux.
Gonzague Lurton, the current owner of the estate, strives to maintain a strict and simple line of conduct at the same time: "The constant search for the natural balance between the vine and the terroir."
