Toyohara Kunichika(memo) Toyohara Kunichika was a Japanese woodblock print artist. Talented as a child, at about thirteen he became a student of Tokyo's then-leading print maker, Utagawa Kunisada. His deep appreciation and knowledge of kabuki drama led to his production primarily of ukiyo-e actor-prints, which are woodblock prints of kabuki actors and scenes from popular plays of the time. Toyohara Chikayoshi (act 1870-80s) Toyohara Chikayoshi is named Chikayoshi Hitsu(周義筆) in his signature. toyohara chikayoshi(memo) A woman ukiyo-e artist who was active in the Meiji era. She is a disciple of Toyohara Kunichi. Her real name is Sato Suzuki, and she refers to Toyohara's artname. Her drawing period was from 1875 to 13 and she painted genre paintings and actor paintings.
