An Ancient Greek terracotta lamp features a round body and a slender tapering nozzle. The sides are convex and the shoulders slightly slope inwards towards the round filling hole. The base features a raised ring base, slightly concave. Signs of ageing and earthly encrustations to the surface.
Throughout ancient times, oil lamps were used by many civilisations to produce light with an oil-based fuel source. The lamps’ symbols, designs, shapes and decorations indicate the time and place they were made, and the culture and standard of living of those who used them.
