S T A B I L A - "Unzerbrechlich" ("Unbreakable") - Herren - Third Reich circa 1942/3

◄N.B. Photos were taken in natural light except for workshop ones taken under special light. I use a macro lens, so in enlarged photos you'll see things you wouldn't normally see. Please note that I don't use photo enhancement software programmes.► Make: Stabila Circa: 1942/3 Case material: Ni-chrome Case diameter: 34.88mms less original crown Strap/type material: Military webbing Strap size: Fits wrist to 22.75cms Dial: Original light khaki with time-earned honest patina Movement: Phenix 17 jewel sub second with Incabloc. Serviced for auction. Keeps time Calibre: Phenix 130; Google 'Phenix 130 ranfft' for more information History & Notes A fairly rare watch from the WW2 section of my collection. This was a German manufactured watch so carried no DH or D contract numbers used for imported Swiss watches. German watch factories were always under the watchful eye of a quality manager from the Reichsministerium für Bewaffnung und Munition. However many members of the military chose to purchase their own watches. The Stabila "Unzerbrechlich" was popular with men serving in the Afrika Korps. As such there was a demand for dials that were not black as this caused problems with strong sunlight (heat). Contrary to something of a myth not all watches carried palm trees with entwined swastikas. This has been perpetuated due to the enormous number of repainted dials in watches that were "lost" in Eastern Europe during the Wehrmacht's retreat from Russia in January 1942! As always I urge you to examine the HD photos carefully as they form the majority of this rare WW2 German military watch's description. You should note in photos #7 the detached lug pin. Fixed lug pin watches were frequently modified later in their lives so that they could be fitted with the later type closed end bracelets. The Stabila will be carefully wrapped (see my Feedback and bid with confidence!) and shipped via Colissimo Insured & Signed For. E & O E © AntMat's Auto Matters & Watches 2018
