An authentic African mask from the smallest country of Africa, Gambia which is only 11,295 km2 and is in the West of Africa. This mask has been brought back by me, the owner, in 1997 from Banjul, the capital of the Gambia. The mask is made by a member of the Wolof tribe, one of the many established tribes in Gambia. The Wolof are also in surrounding Senegal and Mauritania. A Islamic peoples but they have kept their way of life. The other mask has also been brought along from Senegal, as you can see, the design of the mask is a bit different, it is also a little bit smaller. The masks are usually worn by men during ceremonies in which evil spirits are driven out or where the good ones are being called or in a tribal fight, or to prepare for the hunt.
