Wolfe Creek Eisenmeteorit - 5×4×2.5 cm - 104 g

The Wolfe Creek Crater is located in Australia, and was formed by a gigantic meteorite that crashed onto Earth 300,000 years ago. The 50,000 ton meteorite struck at a speed of 15 km per second, forming the second largest meteorite crater in the world, with 880 meters in diameter. It was discovered during an aerial reconnaissance in 1947, after which researchers have intensively studied the crater. The crater takes its name after a local explorer and tracker named Robert Wolfe. Mr. Wolfe founded the city of Halls Creek and discovered the river that passes close by, Wolfe Creek, which also gives its name to the crater. Some fragments of meteorite could also be recovered, which are currently rocks in the form of rusty balls of iron-shale. However, for years the Government of Australia banned all exports of meteorites found in its territory, so it is very difficult to find specimens on sale. In this batch we have a final cut of Wolfe Creek meteorite for auction, with a good size, and which features the typical characteristics of this prehistoric meteorite. We are members of IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association), with number # 7412, so we guarantee the authenticity of all our meteorites. Purchase with a warranty. Best regards.
