Very nice ceramic from the 1960s/70s depicting a mermaid holding a shell.
This piece is signed Bayer for André Bayer.
Comments collected online: "I am the grandson of André Bayer (1906-1985). Here are a few pieces of information. My paternal grandfather left the Paris region for Belgium in the early 1930s. He opened his first workshop in Vilvorde, then moved to Schaerbeek around 1955. He stopped production a year or two before his death. Bayer ceramics was a family business: my grandmother did enamel work and my aunt did accounting and logistics.
He produced utilitarian ceramics - crockery, vases and lamps - but also purely decorative items. I'm sometimes surprised by his eclecticism, but it's normal; in such a long career, he has known different styles. What I especially remember from him are the hanging objects in the ‘Space Age’ or ‘vintage’ style of the 1970s. His series of seahorses was very successful at the time and is experiencing a certain resurgence of interest today."
Dimensions: length: 35 cm; width: from 6 to 12.5 cm.
Very good condition, no bumps or lacks.
Superb enamelling giving it a very nice finish. Definitely a collector’s item from that period.
