An impressive sculpture of Thomas François Cartier (1879-1943), of a lioness, roaring. The sculpture is made of bronze patinated and is signed T. CARTIER on the terrace.
Thomas François Cartier was a French sculptor and was well-known for his animal sculptures, a mid-19th century trend of naturalistic portrayals of animals both in painting and sculpture. Cartier specialized in lions, panther - big cats -, hunting dogs, decorative objects.
He was born on February 21, 1879 in Marseilles, France, he participated the Paris Salons from 1904 onwards, for which he won a Gold Medal in 1927. Cartier died in 1943.
