Ningyo - Gold-plated, Steel, wood - Samurai armour / Yoroi Musha doll armour, complete with chest - Japan - approx. 1950. Part of the traditional Gogatsu-ningyō display during Boys' Day (Tango-no-Sekku). Height of yoroi (sitting on the box): approx. 72 cm. Size Yoroi presentation box approx.: 30 cm high, 42 cm wide and 30.5 cm deep. The Yoroi is in very good condition and very detailed, complete with the Yoroi box and with the presentation stand. In Japan, the traditional Tango-no-Sekku festival is held on May 5th to wish for boys' healthy growth. Families with boys celebrate this day by displaying the Gogatsu Ningyō (doll warrior) display consisting of armour, helmet, sword and bow/arrows reproduced as art objects, which were once worn by brave warriors.
