A large and beautifully executed representation of "The Dying Gaul" after the Ancient example. The bronze sculpture is cast by the famous Barbedienne foundry. It is marked F. Barbedienne Fondeur and has the seal "Reduction Mécanique, A. Collas Brevete".
It represents a naked Gallic warrior in his final moments, his face left in pain while he has a fatal wound to the chest.
The Dying Gaul is one of the most famous images of classical antiquity; the original was a Greek bronze statue, made between 230 BC. and 240 BC in honour of the victory over the Celts in 230 BC, Chr. In the Musei Capitolini in Rome there is a marble copy.
