Skulptur, buddhistische Statue 仏像 - Holz, Lackiertes Holz - Small wooden statue of KANON 観音像 - Japan - Edo-Zeit (1600-1868)

The history of Iwamasan Shoboji Temple (Iwama Temple) is long, having been built in 722. Number 12 of 33 places in the western part of the country. The principal image is the Thousand-armed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. The temple was venerated by successive emperors and flourished as one of the three major sacred places in Japan, along with Kumano and Yoshino. Iwama-dera Temple is home to Basho's Pond, where Matsuo Basho is said to have composed his famous haiku "The sound of water as a frog jumps into an old pond". This statue of Kannon is missing an arm. On the halo is written Iwama-dera Temple No. 12(岩間寺 十二番). The head and necklace are decorated with brass. It is difficult to judge the age of the statue, but it is unlikely to be below the Edo period. He must have saved many people with his calm face. NOTICE ・The lot will be carefully packaged and we may use recycled packages to reduce the environment and the cost as much as possible. ・Duties, taxes, VAT and any other import charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. It is the recipients' responsibility for all the duties and taxes/fees. ・Sometimes customs or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. We appreciate your understanding.
