The first two books cover Battle of Hastings 1066 to 1875. These are the marbled binding books. The additional volume is an updated volume covering 1875 to 1885. That volume has plain boards, printed c 1880. The books are illustrated throughout with hundreds of vignette engravings and thirty-two engraved plates. Published by Cassell, Petter, Galpin, & Co., London, 1873. Publisher’s’ original half leather dark brown spines with marbled boards. The spine has six compartments with gilt bands, the titles are in gilt within the second compartments.
