This is one of the earliest and rarest publications of City Lights from the time their books were being published by Villiers Press in England (stated). This book was limited to 400 copies and in two places in the book it states the book as 'Limited Edition'.
All the artworks are by Kay Johnson .This is a book of poetry by Kay Johnson who was a talented but mysterious writer and artist who lived in Greece, The Beat Hotel in Paris, London and Berkeley, CA.
There were reports that she had committed suicide in 1973 after a love affair gone wrong but then her photograph from 1984 surfaced! So the mystery continues.
She was however in communication with many writers including the many letters that she and Bukowski exchanged. She also submitted the manuscript of this book to Ferlinghetti in person and he liked it a lot and wrote the blurb on the back cover and talked about her many 'lovely lonely novels' which he told me he planned to publish (at least one of them) but she disappeared and he never heard from her again.
A RARE FIND.
Lawrence Ferlinghetti at 1 00 years old is the last of the great living legends. He has published every Beat writer from Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg on down. He was the first poet laureate of San Francisco.
