Ernest Hemingway - The Old Man and The Sea (First Illustrated Edition) - 1953

One of Hemingway's most famous works. It tells the story of Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Florida. In 1953, The Old Man and the Sea was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and it was cited by the Nobel Committee as contributing to their awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Hemingway in 1954. This edition first published by The Reprint Society 1953. The illustrations in this special Reprint Society edition comprise drawings by C.F. Tunnicliffe and Raymond Sheppard. Originally considered as alternatives the Publishers considered that members would find these two artists' different interpretations of the story so excellent and so interesting in their varying styles that both have been included. (An insert from newspaper is enclosed within the book showing a photograph by Fritz Henle ‘An Old Man of the Caribbean Sea’... clearly can be noticed he is the same Old Man within this edition). Published by The Reprint Society, London, 1953. Publisher’s original green boards, with white design on upper cove. White lettering to spine. The book comes with its original dust jacket. Book Dimensions: 22 x 15 cm & Number of Pages: 117 Condition (Nice Copy). Firm and well-bound copy. Slight wear and tear to corners of the clipped dust jacket. External covers are clean and in nice shape. Internally; in very good condition. No names or inscription. Pages are clean. Lovely copy of this scarce title (Please see pictures).
