Zenith - Defy - A3645 - Herren - 1970-1979

"Never before has an exact time been so effectively protected!" This advertising slogan appears in an advertisement for the watch in question in the magazine of the Finnish Watchmakers' Association in 1970. The late 60`s were a race between watch factories to make waterproof watches, and in 1968, Zenith brought a small test batch of its diving-tight model called Defy to the world. The watch entered the market the following year and came to Finland a little later in early 1969. Defy has accumulated many nicknames throughout his career, including: "Safe", "Nut", "Miura". Defy was named "safe" because of its uniquely tough shell. "Nut" got its name from the nut-like shape of the watch shell. I think the name "Miura" has something to do with the Lamborghini Miura model. The watch was not very well received by the market due to its peculiar octagonal shell, but in retrospect the watch was only ahead of its time. Since then, octagonal watches have been introduced to some extent, such as Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, which was only launched in 1972 and was very popular at the time, is still an icon with a reputation. The watch was also made to withstand extreme conditions, which is why the mechanism, so called, floats inside the shell with the help of a flexible ring. Nowadays it is difficult to find dephys in good original condition, because back in the day, for example, workmen bought this watch because of its durability. Read these features of ZENITH DEFY and your watch choice is no longer a problem: 1. The high-precision Zenith drive is equipped with two ball bearings. 2. Flexible fastening of the machinery 3. Safe shell, magnetized, stainless steel. Tested at 1050ºC. 4. 1.8mm thick tempered scratch resistant mineral glass 5. DEFY is fully waterproof up to 30 atmospheres (300m). This text can also be found in an old defy ad! The dial on the watch has been seen and received slight moisture for some time now, possibly at some point. The colour of the dial is dark grey/graphite. The glass has apparently been replaced with a new original glass during the last maintenance, the glass is in relatively good condition, there are a few scratches. The crown is original and in good condition. The wristband is Zenith's newer generation Defy shark leather bracelet, which I think fits this ok. The wristband is in good condition. The watch is powered by a reliable Zenith caliber 2552PC. The movement is in good condition and also keeps its time nicely. Throwing per day less than 10s. The machinery was last fully serviced in 2017 (document) The watch case is ok in order, there are normal signs of use. Information: Brand: Zenith Model: Defy Ref: A3645 Case number: 819 D 491 Movement: Automatic, 23-stone, swing frequency 21600, running time 46h+ Caliber: 2552PC Diameter: 37mm without knob and 41mm with knob Lug to lug: 44mm Thickness: 12mm Manufactured: 1970 Waterproof: 300m The watch comes with a rare original box as well as the original warranty certificate and service receipt.
