Item Description: Presenting a profound blend of traditional artisanship and innovative design, this 'hanakago' (flower basket) is an exquisite example of the delicate "sukashi-ami" (openwork weaving) technique pioneered by the second generation Tanabe Chikuunsai. Born as the eldest son to the first generation Chikuunsai, a renowned master in bamboo craft, he has furthered the family legacy with his intricate and lace-like weaving patterns, elevating bamboo art to new heights. Notably, his work was first recognized at the prestigious Teiten exhibition in 1931, and he succeeded the title of Chikuunsai II in 1937. This hanakago not only serves as a functional vessel for ikebana but stands as an object of beauty and a testament to a living tradition carried into the modern era.
