Amazing wooden ishô’dansu 衣装箪笥 (cabinet of drawers) in two sections, boasting intricate decorative hand-forged iron hardware. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed in Japan.
The drawer faces are made from precious kiri (paulownia) wood, and its frame from indigenous sugi (cedar) wood.
The upper section constructed with two full-width drawers, and the lower section with four drawers of different size.
The drawers are equipped with large lock plates formed like folding fans 扇子 (sensu) adorned with ornamental strings and tassels hanging from the sides. The fans are embellished with raised knobs shaped like chrysanthemum flowers 菊 (kiku).
Flanked by sturdy ‘warabite’- shaped bail handles with en-suite escutcheons. The smooth running drawers are very deep and have a lot of volume, for easy storage.
The sides with “pole carrying”-handles for easy transport and locking the upper part into place.
Period: Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912).

The ishô dansu is in a very good restored condition with minimal traces of wear conform age. No keys included. For a clear condition reference, please look at the photos.
