Yolande Ide (1931) - A woman

Yolande Ide 1931 Circa 1960s A terracotta sculpture portraying a woman, crafted with a sense of urgency yet exuding a distinct charm, highlights the beauty of the female form. With accurate proportions, the sculpture is created in a style reminiscent of raw art or art brut. Biography: Yolande Ide, now 93 years old woman, from the Belgian coastal town named De Haan. She is the wife of Léon Ide, a prominent architect in the commune of De Haan. In 1950, Yolande enrolled in courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Throughout her life, she created magnificent terracotta sculptures in secret, in her small workshop within their large family home. Despite her artistic talent, she never exhibited her work, preferring to keep her studio within the castle where she resided with her renowned architect husband. Living in a privileged environment, she had no need to sell her pieces, as her husband provided for the household. Yolande carefully crafted her sculptures, focusing on slightly rounded women, highly stylized for the 1960s and considered avant-garde in their style. She also created some rare male figures. Her sculptures are characterized by their raw beauty. Her husband, Leon Ide, was a renowned architect who greatly influenced the interwar architectural landscape of De Haan. He specialized in designing Anglo-Norman and Flemish country-style villas, as well as undertaking projects in other coastal municipalities such as Bredene and Middelkerke. Notably, he renovated the "Grand Hôtel du Coq-sur-mer" in Le Coq, originally designed by Alfred Neirynck in 1889, and designed the town hall of the former municipality of Klemskerke. We had an opportunity to buy the whole atelier of the artist. So you can get one off her magnificent work exclusively here. Don’t miss your chance! The item will be well packed and protected.
