An etched fossilized palmwood, Pumtek bead talisman with geometrical design from the ancient Burmese culture, late Pyu States,
Second Millennium AD or older .
In good condition. It has been cleaned, but the nice antique patina is preserved. Original, ancient, hand cutting, carving, boring and grinding. The holes are ancient, hand-made, irregular but have been over drilled with modern techniques to make the piece wearable when the ancient holes obstructed. Traces of use and age on its surface.
Purchased in 1980/Yangon by Dr. Zelnik on the local art market during his diplomatic mission in the region.
