A fine collection of different strings of very thin "disc-beads', used around the waist by young women in the Ashanti-culture of Ghana. When dancing a bundle of these strings would make a nice rattling sound. Originally produced in the Czech region of Bohemia from the 1950`s upto the mid-1970`s. Especially made for the Ghanaian market. Most popular colours were black and red. Each string was made individually, depending on the colours that were available at a certein time. The strings presented here vary in diameter from 7-14-17 mm. One string has a nice combination of brown-red/yellow/pink and red discs. Due to their age some strings of cotton tend to be fragile. All ropes were collected in the city of Kumasi in the 1990`s.
