Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva wine is only made in exceptional years. The 2001 vintage was rated Excellent by the DOC Rioja Regulatory Council. This grand reserve white wine is made with Viura and Malvasía from vines planted between 1913 and 1914 located on the right bank of the Ebro River, about 470 meters above sea level. As is the norm at the large R. López de Heredia-Viña Tondonia winery, the vinification of the white wine Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva 2001 is traditional. Fermentation is carried out with destemmed grapes without skins in small oak vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in Bordeaux barrels. This Gran Reserva white wine remains in old American oak barrels for ten years with two annual rackings. Once the aging in wood is complete, the wine is clarified with fresh egg whites and bottled unfiltered. It will remain in the bottle for another ten years before going on the market. Presented in the same bottle as always, with a long cork and sealed. This white wine from Rioja in its 2001 vintage has achieved 99 Parker points, establishing a record never achieved before.
