Chancay Töpferware Anthropomorphe Urne mit TL-Test. Deutsche Exportlizenz. - 45.6 cm

Precolumbian- Chancay Anthropomorphic urn with TL test (1000-1450). The Chancay were a pre-Hispanic archeological civilization that developed on the central coast of Peru, from about 1000 to 1470 AD. The center of the Chancay culture was located 80 kilometers north of Lima. It is a desert region but has fertile valleys bathed by rivers and is rich in resources that allowed for, among other things, extensive agricultural development. The Chancay culture is the first of the Peruvian cultures that had mass production of ceramics. This pottery has been found mainly in the cemeteries of the Ancon and Chancay valley. The technique used in creating ceramics was with a rough matt surface that was later painted with a dark colour, usually black or brown, on top of a lighter cream or white background. This dark on light characteristic is known as black on white. This egg-shaped body urn depicts a character with earrings with geometric design, brown tattoos over his face, a headdress adorned by ridged vertical appliques and holding in his hands a cup placed on his chest. It has a missing part at the mouth of the vessel. Attached TL test from QED Laboratoire. Attached export certificate from Germany. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner to a German Gallery. Former private collection from the south of Germany (1961). The Supplier warrants that he obtained this lot legally. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki. Important information. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot. The seller will take care that any necessary permits will be arranged. The seller will inform the buyer about this if this takes more than a few days. Important: For destinations out of Spanish territory: all our objects will be shipped after obtaining CERTIFICATE OF EXPORTATION by Ministry of Culture of Spain. We inform our clients that it may take between 4-8 weeks.
