A refined antique Suzuribako硯箱 (writing box) made in Edo period with excellent craftsmanship.
The outer surface of this Suzuribako shows a fine black-lacquered lid decorated with gold taka maki-e patterns for vivid mountains, rocks, ancient buildings and all kinds of lifelike plants. These patterns were created with great precision and detail, capturing the beauty of buildings and plants in every nuance. The gold lacquer was applied with great skill, creating an effect of depth and three-dimensionality to the floral motif.
The interior of the Suzuribako are coated with nashiji lacquer, a traditional Japanese finish that creates a thick gold dust effect over the entire surface. This finish offers a charming contrast to the glossy black exterior.
