His real surname is Yamamura, and his given name is Kiyosuke. He used the painter's surname of Utagawa and went by the names Kunitoshi, Umeju, Umeo, and Umeo Michitoto. His trade name is Mikawaya. From 1891, he also called himself Kuninoshi Umeki. He lives at 35 Kanda Ogawamachi. The period of drawing was from Keio to around 1874, and from around 1874, in addition to paintings of famous places such as landscapes of Ginza, railway carriages, and Mitsui Bank, there were also paintings of Kaika-e, Kirigumi-e, genre paintings, and copperplate maps.
