Natsume棗, goldene Maki-e-Teedose - Lack, Lackwaren - Kaga Maki-e - Japan - Shōwa Zeit (1926-1989)
A "棗 (natsume)" is a container used in the Japanese tea ceremony to hold matcha. Originally, the term "natsume" referred to the fruit of the jujube tree, but it came to be used for tea utensils because its shape closely resembled that of the jujube fruit.
棗(Natsume) containers are typically simple, with a plain black lacquer finish. However, over time, more elaborate lacquerwork known as "makie" has become popular, featuring intricate decorations created by sprinkling metal powders onto the lacquered surface after painting or coloring.
This is a natsume with a willow pattern.
